Paul Dykman. Western Artwork Artist

About Paul Dykman

Paul Dykman is an artist with a vast subject range. He can best be described as a classically trained artist with the talent and ability to capture feeling. Paul has a strong use of light and a fine mastery of palette knife work.

Paul was raised in a family of professional artists in South Africa and in keeping with the Dykman tradition, he was encouraged to draw and paint from an early age. He learned his art techniques from both his father and grandfather, some of South Africa’s most prominent artists in their time. At age thirteen, Paul sold one of his first paintings at a joint exhibition with his father at the Royal Agriculture Show in South Africa. He later went on to be represented in some of the South Africa’s finest art galleries.

In 1995 he and his family moved to the United States to further his artistic exposure. Paul has made Montana his home for the past several years and his love of the West with its spectacular scenery and imagery has come alive within Paul’s paintings.

Paul was awarded the ASS Award for his painting “Shedding” exhibited with Paint the Parks in 2010 and his painting “A New Mare” was featured on a past cover of “Rocky Mountain Rider” magazine. An image of his painting “Ridin’ Hard” was used on the cover of the novel by Keith Imus “Zero Smith”.

Paul has participated in the C.M. Russell Auction since 2007 and is part of the March in Montana Auction. He has a room at the Heritage Inn every year at the Out West Art Show and Sale [Room 172].

He participates in the annual Miniatures by the Lake, Coeur d’ Alene; American Miniatures, Tucson and Montana Miniatures, Great Falls
